Water caretakers

“Water Caretakers” is an unprecedented initiative on the coast of São Paulo – the region of the Atlantic Forest biome. These are formative processes in environmental education and water resources management, with the objective of engaging and empowering citizens for the protection of their natural assets.

This action contributes directly to strengthening of the Comitês de Bacias Hidrográficas (River Basin Committees) in the region – public institutions formed by representatives of civil society, state and municipal governments, such as secretariats, municipalities and supervisory bodies. They are places for decisions on the allocation of funds for works in cities and environmental education. The preparation and critical positioning of citizens to present their issues within these places is fundamental for the social transformation that FunBEA proposes for Brazil.
